26.4kW Solar Case Study

Doonan (Noosa Hinterland) - 26.4kW solar system

A previous customer of ours contacted us again when he purchased his most recent property in Doonan, in the Noosa hinterland. It is a large home with a high electricity usage, and therefore needed a large, high quality solar power system to help power it.

SolarWide in-house installers installed a solar and battery system on his previous home but with this being a new property we have installed a battery ready solar system so that he can add batteries later when he has a better understanding of the power consumption throughout the year.

We installed 26.4kW of REC TwinPeak 5 400w solar panels on two 10kW Sungrow inverters. The chosen inverters were the high quality Sungrow SH10RT hybrid inverters so that we can easily add a Sungrow battery stack in the future.

When designing a solar system it is important to consider your changing electricity demand and requirements for future. Future proofing your solar system with a hybrid inverter can be really beneficial if you are thinking of adding a battery in the future as it saves throwing away a normal grid tie inverter, to then buy a hybrid solar inverter when you choose to add a solar battery.

Note: If you prefer to add a battery such as a Tesla Powerwall 2, you don’t need to add a hybrid solar inverter as they are an AC coupled battery rather than DC coupled. There are pro’s and cons to both.

This system with 2 Sungrow 10kW hybrid inverters and over 26kW of REC panels is expected to produce over 100kWh per day and save this customer a lot of money over its lifetime. At the time of writing this (October 2023) after only 2 months of operation we have already seen the system produce a daily peak of over 157kWh which is way beyond expectation. We can’t wait to see what summer brings!

The REC solar panels come with a 25 year product warranty as we are an accredited REC solar professional installer and the Sungrow inverters come with a 10 year warranty. His investment is protected for many years to come and will pay for itself many times over.

When you look at a large solar power system for your home it is also important to consider export limits. Generally Energex approve 5kW of solar export per phase. Being that this is a 3 phase site with Sungrow 3 phase 10kW hybrid inverters, we installed a Sungrow DTSU666 3 phase energy meter to export limit the site to 15kW. In short, if the household energy usage drops and the system is about the export more than 15kW to the grid, it will ramp the solar system down to ensure that the Energex enforced export limit is maintained. On single phase power supply, you can still install a 10kW solar inverter but it would generally be export limited to 5kW to keep Energex happy.

SolarWide are based in Warana and cover all of The Sunshine Coast, Noosa regions, Gympie and also down through Beerwah, Caboolture, North Lakes and into Brisbane.

If you are also looking for a quality solar system in the Noosa hinterland, contact us today and we can begin to build your new solar system together.
